About

Also known as: Ziesjoem!

Ziesjoem! are a folk and popular music group from Maastricht who sing in the local Maastrichts dialect, and their name literally means "sea foam." What started as sea shanties on the boats of Rederij Stiphout in 1986 evolved into a fully fledged act with original songs, theatrical costumes, and a fanbase that stretches well beyond the boats they first performed on. Their biggest hit, "Zjuulke Zeuthout", is still requested at shows to this day, and their carnival anthem "Drei daog laank verlore" won them the Mestreechs Vastelaovendsleedsje in 1996. Over the years the group built up a solid presence in Limburg through theatre shows, radio play, and television appearances, with their costumes changing theme every couple of years from pirates to Russian tsars to country western. A genuine highlight came in the summer of 2011 when they shared the stage with André Rieu at the Vrijthof in Maastricht, a concert broadcast live to cinemas around the world. The current lineup of Marly Van Herpen, Jos Van Herpen, and Roger Stijns has kept the group going strong.
