Zolita, the stage name of Zoë Montana Hoetzel, first caught people's attention in 2015 when the music video for "Explosion" went viral. From there she built a distinct identity in dark pop, weaving witchcraft and religious imagery through her music and visuals. She directs many of her own videos, and that hands on creative control shows: everything from the feminist protest energy of "Fight Like a Girl" to the queer love story told across the trilogy of "Somebody I Fucked Once", "Single in September" and "I Fucking Love You" feels deliberately crafted. That trilogy made an immediate splash, with the first video hitting 5 million YouTube views in its first week. She cites Lady Gaga as her biggest influence, and her music sits at a crossroads of pop, R&B and a certain witchy theatricality she describes as central to her queer identity. Her catalog includes two studio albums, Evil Angel from 2020 and Queen of Hearts from 2024, plus three EPs. The song "Like Heaven" landed on Billboard's list of 30 Lesbian Love Songs, which feels like a fair summary of what Zolita does best.
