About
Atlanta's Zoroaster spent a decade carving out a sound that sat at the grimy crossroads of sludge, doom, and stoner metal, thick riffs draped in psychedelic haze. Formed in 2003 by members who had already been grinding through the underground with Terminal Doom Explosion, they put out four studio albums between 2005 and 2010. Dog Magic and Voice of Saturn are fan favorites, but Matador, released through E1 Entertainment and Steamhammer, pushed them to their widest audience. They also contributed a track called Witch Hammer to the Williams Street compilation Metal Swim, which put them in front of a whole new crowd. The band wound down around 2013, leaving behind a catalog that still gets recommended any time someone wants their metal slow, heavy, and a little cosmic.
