About
Zwart Licht is a trio from Amsterdam that has been a fixture of Dutch rap since 2007. MCs Akwasi and Leeroy trade verses over beats from producer Hayzee, mixing poetic writing with raw production and lyrics that don't shy away from a fight. Their debut album Bliksemschicht arrived in 2009 and shook up the Dutch hip hop scene. A lot of what they do is political. Racism, discrimination and social inequality come up again and again, and the group uses rap as a way to call out injustice and speak for a generation that often feels unheard. Live, they have a reputation for chaotic, high energy shows with plenty of moshing, including sets at Lowlands and a sold out Paradiso. They've also made a record called Licht In Het Donker.
