TheaterHotel De Oranjerie occupies a distinctive building in the center of Roermond: the former telephone exchange, which was converted into a combined hotel and theatre under the ownership of Van der Valk. The theatre itself seats 794 people and underwent a full renovation in 2023, giving it the infrastructure to function as one of the more serious concert and performance venues in the Limburg region. The hotel side of the operation includes 146 rooms and suites alongside two restaurants, making it a venue where an evening out can extend into an overnight stay. The programme leans toward established Dutch and international acts, with well over a hundred professional performances taking place each year. Among the artists who have performed here are Rowwen Hèze, Frank Boeijen, Golden Earring, O'G3NE, Racoon, Di rect, Herman van Veen and the Dire Straits Experience, a range that reflects a broad audience spanning rock, pop and singer songwriter territory. The venue also participated in Popronde 2019, the Dutch touring festival that showcases emerging talent, which brought a different, more discovery oriented crowd through its doors. What sets De Oranjerie apart from a typical standalone theatre is precisely that hotel context. The building carries visible historical character from its telephone exchange origins, and the combination of a large renovated auditorium, dining facilities and accommodation in a single location gives it a different feel from a conventional concert hall. For audiences traveling from elsewhere in Limburg or across the border, the setup makes an evening of music into something more than just a show.
