Theater Aan de Slinger is a community cultural venue in Houten, a town in the Utrecht province, situated directly beside Houten railway station. The building houses two distinct performance spaces: the main Theaterzaal, which has a tiered tribune seating 292 visitors, and the smaller Kleine Zaal with capacity for around 91 guests. That range allows the venue to host everything from large theatrical productions to more intimate evenings, and the halls can also be hired out for private events from as few as five to as many as 300 guests. The programming covers a broad stretch of the performing arts. Cabaret, theatre, music and film all feature regularly, and the venue has built a reputation for serving audiences of all ages. Families with young children are a regular part of the mix, partly through workshops such as a youth theatre programme for children from five years old, and partly through the general approach of making the program accessible to the whole community. The venue has been running this kind of multidisciplinary schedule for over ten years, making it one of the more established cultural anchors in what is a relatively small town.
