3701 HZ Zeist
De Peppel is a pop and culture venue on Montaubanstraat 106 in Zeist that has been running since 1974, when it started out as a youth centre before evolving into a dedicated music stage. It is one of the 39 officially designated core pop venues in the Netherlands, a status that reflects its structural role in the country's live music landscape. The hall holds up to 350 people, a capacity that grew out of a 2010 interior renovation in which a previously separate hall and bar area were merged into a single space. Beyond concerts, De Peppel offers jam sessions, courses, and rehearsal space, giving it a community function that goes well beyond presenting finished acts. The programming spans a genuinely broad range of genres, and over the years the stage has been taken by artists as different as the blues rock guitarist Julian Sas, symphonic metal band Within Temptation, pop rock act DI RECT, gothic rock outfit Clan of Xymox, the New Cool Collective, and singer songwriter Paulusma. That mix of Dutch and international names, covering rock, blues, jazz influenced acts, and alternative music, gives a sense of how eclectic the booking policy tends to be. For a town of Zeist's size, having a venue with this kind of track record and official recognition is notable. The relatively intimate capacity means that audiences are close to the performers, and acts that might fill much larger rooms elsewhere tend to appear here in a setting that feels personal rather than cavernous.
