Fat Dog announces second album and will perform in Utrecht in October

Fat Dog, the London band known for their exuberant live shows, revealed the details of their second studio album on June 30. The album is titled 'Cancel Me (I'm Tired)' and comes out on October 2 via Domino. Alongside the announcement they released the title track of the same name, which immediately sets the tone for what is to come.

According to a statement from the band, the song was inspired by John Lennon's 'How Do You Sleep', combined with the question of what Altın Gün's Anatolian rock experiment would sound like if it were ambushed by a pounding club beat. The track opens with the words "If you wanna cancel me / Then go ahead and do it please" and is described as "the sound of what happens when people push your buttons and your buttons start pushing back". The music video, directed by James Winstanley, shows the band trying to survive a night out in London's Soho without getting cancelled.

The new album follows their 2024 debut 'WOOF.', which received a five star review from NME and was described as "unserious, unhinged and sensational". Work on the second album began after frontman and songwriter Joe Love returned from a US tour that notably ended in a Las Vegas wedding. Love had already proposed to his girlfriend in San Francisco, and after the band played a show to just two people in Vegas, he got married the following day. "We played a gig to two people in Vegas," Love said, "and then the next day I got married." With that experience in mind he got to work at home, this time with a far more pronounced lyrical approach than on the debut, deliberately putting the lyrics at the centre of the creative process. Thematically the album covers a wide range of territory, from addiction and family relationships to artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial life and all manner of popular culture.

The album contains ten tracks, including previously released singles 'Go Fuck Urself' and 'Peace Song', alongside new tracks such as 'Heart Of Darkness', 'Shit Love', 'Snakes' and 'Aliens'. Around the release week the band will host a series of in store shows, with access available by pre ordering the album.

Fat Dog's summer is already packed with festival appearances and support slots, including three dates opening for Foo Fighters in Berlin, Vienna and Milan. In Belgium they play Dour Festival and Rock Herk in July. An extensive European headline tour follows in the autumn. For Dutch fans there is good news: on October 30 the band plays Tivoli in Utrecht. The run of shows continues across Europe with stops in Antwerp, Paris, Cologne and Berlin among others, before the band also takes on a string of UK venues in November.
