Jay Z makes bonus tracks from 4:44 available on all streaming services

On June 30, exactly nine years after the release of 4:44, Jay Z made three bonus tracks from the album available on all major streaming platforms. Roc Nation confirmed the wider release via Instagram. The three songs had previously been exclusive to Tidal, the streaming platform affiliated with the rapper.

The three tracks each have their own distinct character. On "Adnis," produced by British musician James Blake, Jay Z addresses his father Adnis Reeves Jr. in the form of an open letter. His father passed away in 2003 from liver failure after being absent from his son's life for many years. "Blue's Freestyle / We Family" is a collaboration with his daughter Blue Ivy Carter, while Blake also returns on "ManyFacedGod," on which Jay Z reflects on his marriage to Beyoncé, a theme that was also central to the main album.

4:44 came out in June 2017 and was widely praised for its introspective and vulnerable tone, in part because Jay Z openly acknowledged his past infidelity on it. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 262,000 album equivalent units in its first week. It remains his most recent solo album to date, although he and Beyoncé released the joint project Everything Is Love together a year later.

The release of the bonus tracks coincides with a busy period for the rapper. Last week, Roc Nation organized pop up activations in Brooklyn and Manhattan to mark the thirtieth anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt. Jay Z is also scheduled for three concerts at Yankee Stadium in New York, on July 10, 11, and 12. HBO additionally announced a documentary series titled Jay Z in 8, directed by Rick Rubin, which is set to appear later this year.

For collectors there is also a physical first: 4:44 has been released on vinyl for the first time as part of the JAY Z: 30th Anniversary Collector's Crate, a box set containing all thirteen of the rapper's solo albums, available for $1,500 through the Roc Nation website.
