About
ADAM Quartet is a classical ensemble from Amsterdam that takes on orchestral repertoire in an intimate chamber setting. One of their programmes centres on Joseph Haydn's composition originally written for a Spanish marquis and priest, José Sáenz de Santa María, intended for Good Friday liturgy at the Santo Rosario Church in Cádiz. The piece moves through tender and serene passages before closing with a movement inspired by the earthquake said to have followed the crucifixion of Jesus. In this programme the music is framed by commentary and texts written and spoken by author and philosopher Ischa den Blanken, bringing a reflective, literary dimension to the performance.
