Japanese beatboxer Afra has built a career around pushing what the human voice can do, releasing music under his own name as well as fronting Afra & Incredible Beatbox Band, the group he formed with Kei and K Moon in 2005. His discography stretches from early solo work like Always Fresh Rhythm Attack to a collaborative release with experimental producer Prefuse 73, showing he's comfortable moving between underground hip hop and more experimental territory. Afra has also crossed into anime, voicing the beatboxing character Shinpachi in Samurai Champloo alongside Kōichi Yamadera, and later playing the beatboxer Hie in Devilman Crybaby. It's a neat fit: roles that called for an actual beatboxer rather than an actor pretending to be one, and it put his skills in front of a whole different audience.
