About
Albert Cano Smit is a Spanish Dutch classical pianist from Geneva whose competition record speaks for itself: first prize at the 2017 Naumburg International Piano Competition, then a win at the Young Concert Artists Competition in 2019 with six special prizes on top of that. At the 2017 Montreal International Piano Competition he reached the finals and earned praise as "a great artist in the making" for what one observer called a virtual near suicide concerto choice. Since those victories he has played solo recitals at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, L'Auditori de Barcelona and festivals in France and Germany, among others. He has performed concertos with orchestras including the Seattle Symphony, Montreal Symphony and the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra. A notable milestone came in October 2019 when he made his Carnegie Hall debut, world premiering Stephen Hough's Partita for Piano, a piece the Walter W. Naumburg Foundation had commissioned especially for the occasion.
