About
Also known as: A. Medina, Alejandro Magno, Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro, Algazul Medina
Few artists have reshaped Spanish pop quite like Alejandro Sanz, the Madrid born singer whose flamenco soaked ballads turned him into one of the biggest names in Latin music. His 1997 album Más became the best selling album in Spanish history, moving over two million copies in Spain alone and putting songs like "Corazón Partío" and "Amiga Mía" on repeat across Spain, Cuba and the United States. In 2002 he became the first Spanish artist to record an MTV Unplugged album, a milestone that underlined just how far he had come from his awkward debut under the name Alejandro Magno. Sanz holds 24 Latin Grammy Awards and 4 Grammy Awards, including three Latin Grammy Album of the Year wins. His 2005 duet with Shakira, "La Tortura", hit number one on charts around the world and introduced him to a whole new audience. Beyond the pop hits, he has never stopped pushing his sound into funk, R&B, jazz and rock territory, keeping things unpredictable across more than a decade of releases from No Es lo Mismo through to Sirope in 2015.
