About
Norwegian singer songwriter Ane Brun has built one of Scandinavia's most quietly compelling catalogs since her debut Spending Time with Morgan came out in 2003. Based in Stockholm, where she writes, records, and runs her own label Balloon Ranger Recordings, she sings almost exclusively in English, a deliberate choice she credits with giving her more emotional freedom and a fresher ear for language. Her sound sits in art pop and rock territory, and her output has been prolific: eleven studio albums, multiple live records, and a string of covers collections that range from Radiohead to Mariah Carey. Some career highlights give a sense of her range. She sang Kate Bush's part on a Peter Gabriel re recording of "Don't Give Up", collaborated with composer Nico Muhly on string arrangements, and performed an adaptation of Purcell's "Dido's Lament" at the Roundhouse in London. Her 2020 albums After the Great Storm and How Beauty Holds the Hand of Sorrow both earned IMPALA nominations, and After the Great Storm won her two Grammis awards including Composer of the Year.
