Anthony Rother is one of the key figures behind the electro revival that swept through Europe in the 1990s, blending Italo dance, synthpop, and four on the floor rhythms into something distinctly cold and futuristic. His sound, best heard on records like "Sex With the Machines", "Simulationszeitalter", and "Hacker", runs on repetitive machine beats, vocoder vocals, and lyrics fixated on technology, the human machine relationship, and what computers are doing to society. It is robotic music that somehow still feels emotional. Beyond electro, Rother has a whole other side as a dark ambient composer, with albums like "Elixir of Life" and "Art Is a Technology" showing a more atmospheric, slower burning approach. He has also produced for Sven Väth and DJ Hell, runs his own labels, and has kept releasing material well into the 2010s, with "Netzwerk Der Zukunft" among his more recent full lengths.
