Few artists have reshaped electronic music as thoroughly as Richard D. James, the Cornish producer behind the Aphex Twin name. His sound pulls from techno, ambient, acid, jungle and IDM, often within the same record, and journalists at outlets from the NME to The New York Times have consistently placed him among the most influential figures the genre has produced. His 1992 debut album Selected Ambient Works 85, 92 set the tone early, but it was releases like the Richard D. James Album and the Chris Cunningham directed videos for "Come to Daddy" and "Windowlicker" that pushed him into wider international consciousness. After wrapping his Warp contract with Drukqs in 2001, he spent years putting out records on his own Rephlex label, including the fully analogue Analord EP series under the AFX alias. He came back to Warp with Syro in 2014, which won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Since then he has kept busy with EPs like Cheetah and Collapse, a Grammy nominated 2023 single, and a steady stream of tracks dropped on SoundCloud.
