About
Half of breakbeat hardcore duo Urban Shakedown alongside Micky Finn, Gavin King helped score a UK top 40 hit with "Some Justice" in 1992, reportedly made with two Amiga 500 computers. He's been recording and releasing under the name Aphrodite ever since, a moniker he picked up while running parties at University of Warwick. His sound sits firmly in the jungle and drum and bass world, and he runs his own imprint, Aphrodite Recordings, giving him full control over his output. His self titled debut album dropped in 1999 on V2 Recordings, followed by Aftershock in 2002 and Break in Reality in 2005. His reach has extended well beyond club floors: tracks have appeared in TV shows including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and he has worked on remixes for Nine Inch Nails and Dub War. In 2024 a Trippcore remix of his track "Style From The Darkside" surfaced, showing he's still very much active.
