Dillinja, the alias of Karl Nicholas Francis, has been one of drum and bass's most restless producers since 1991, building a catalogue that spans a dizzying range of aliases including Cybotron, Capone, Suburban Knight and The Specialist. That flexibility has always been part of his appeal, letting him explore different corners of the jungle and drum and bass spectrum without getting pinned to a single sound. His Angels Fell EP on Metalheadz and the deep, heavy low end of his Deadly Vinyl releases are the kind of records that defined the mid nineties scene. In 2001 he launched Valve Recordings with longtime collaborator Lemon D, debuting their sound system at London's Fabric and then taking it across the UK and beyond. The label became the home for much of his output through the 2000s, including albums like Cybotron and Big Bad Bass. He also scored a mainstream moment when Twist Em Out, featuring MC Skibadee, climbed to number 35 in the UK Singles Chart in 2003.
