About
Arkona are a Russian folk metal band whose entire sound revolves around Russian folklore and Slavic mythology, right down to the traditional instruments woven through their recordings. Fronted by the powerfully distinctive Maria "Masha Scream" Arkhipova, the band has built a catalog of ambitious, genre blending albums since their debut in 2004, often bringing in guest musicians by the dozen. Their 2009 album Goi, Rode, Goi! featured over 40 musicians including a choir and a string quintet, and their sixth album Slovo called in the Chamber Orchestra of the Kazan Conservatory. They even got a strange brush with mainstream fame when a clip of their song "Yarilo" turned up on a St. Patrick's Day episode of the US version of The Office. Widely regarded as one of the top pagan metal acts around, Arkona have toured relentlessly across Europe, North America and beyond.
