About
Also known as: Ashley Groenewald
Ash Grunwald is one of Australia's most restless blues musicians, someone who has spent two decades pushing the genre well beyond its traditional borders. His early records drew on raw blues standards and originals, but by the time Hot Mama Vibes landed in 2010 he was blending electronica into the mix, something he described as a long held dream. Five of his nine studio albums have cracked the ARIA top 50, and he has picked up five ARIA nominations along the way, all in the Best Blues and Roots category. Some of his most interesting moments have come from unexpected collabs and left field ideas. He once covered Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" with members of The Living End just for fun, it got picked up by national radio, and the whole thing snowballed into the 2013 album Gargantua. His 2012 single "Longtime" spent weeks in heavy rotation on Triple J and earned him an APRA Award for Blues Song of the Year. Grunwald has also supported acts like James Brown and Xavier Rudd, picking up an LA Music Critic Award for Best International Act along the way.
