About
Tucson thrash outfit Atrophy have been grinding since 1986, when they started out under the name Heresy before getting picked up by Roadrunner Records. Their first two albums, Socialized Hate and Violent by Nature, put them on stages alongside Slayer, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, and Venom, among others. Then lineup shifts and a label drop in the early 1990s brought things to a halt, and by 1993 they were done. The band reformed in 2015 and eventually pushed through more upheaval, including the departure of vocalist Brian Zimmerman during the COVID era. Zimmerman came back and rebuilt the group under the Atrophy name, releasing the long awaited third album Asylum in 2024, more than three decades after their last record. With new material for a fourth album already in the works, they show no signs of slowing down.
