Few bands can claim to have accidentally launched an internet meme, but Attack Attack! managed exactly that when their "Stick Stickly" video sparked the "crabcore" phenomenon, mocking guitarist Andrew Whiting's wide legged stance. The Westerville, Ohio metalcore act built a genuinely unlikely following by mashing up heavy breakdowns with synths and pop hooks, a combination that put their debut Someday Came Suddenly on the Billboard 200 despite near universal critical side eye. Their self titled follow up did even better, topping the Independent Albums chart and shifting 15,000 copies in its first week. Caleb Shomo ended up being the band's secret weapon, starting as keyboardist before taking over lead vocals and eventually producing their third album This Means War himself. After key members departed in late 2012 citing years of depression, the band wound down with a farewell tour in 2013. They surprised fans in October 2020 by announcing a reformation with a mix of returning and new faces.
