About
Also known as: Avriel Benjamin Kaplan
Most people first heard Avi Kaplan's deep, resonant voice as the vocal bass of Pentatonix, the a cappella group he was part of from 2011 to 2017. During that run the group won three Grammy Awards, sold over six million albums, and collaborated with Dolly Parton on a cover of "Jolene". But the relentless pace eventually pushed him toward something quieter and more personal. When he stepped away from the group, he traded the polished pop sound for folk and southern gothic territory, releasing his debut EP Sage and Stone under the name Avriel and the Sequoias. Since then Kaplan has settled into his own lane as a solo artist. His debut studio album Floating on a Dream, released in 2022 and produced by country musician Shooter Jennings, is the most fully realized version of that direction so far. He has kept busy since, releasing new music into 2025 and even assembling a local choir from Portland singers he called the Oregon Forest Choir for a live performance at Revolution Hall.
