About
Also known as: Aztek Camera
Aztec Camera was really Roddy Frame's show. He started the Scottish jangle pop band in East Kilbride in 1980 and ended up as its only constant member, with session players coming and going from the third album on. Their first two singles came out on the Glasgow label Postcard Records, then the debut High Land, Hard Rain arrived in 1983 on Rough Trade. "Oblivious" came from that record, and Frame has said he wrote it on purpose as a Top of the Pops kind of pop song. For the follow up, Knife, Frame landed Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits as producer. It stretched out to a nearly nine minute title track and brought in synthesizers. Later albums included Love, Stray, Dreamland and Frestonia, and the hits "Somewhere in My Heart" and "Good Morning Britain", a duet with former Clash guitarist Mick Jones, gave them real chart presence.
