Badi Assad is a Brazilian guitarist, singer and composer whose playing sits somewhere between jazz, bossa nova, world music and classical, and who has a habit of making other people's songs feel entirely her own. Her 1995 album Rhythms won Guitar Player magazine's readers' poll for Best Classical Album of the Year, and that same year the magazine's editors voted her Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitarist. She has shared stages at major international festivals with artists including Cassandra Wilson, Gilberto Gil and Marisa Monte, and her single 'Waves' spent weeks in Spain's Top 10. On her Deutsche Grammophon albums Verde and Wonderland she ran songs by U2, Björk and Eurythmics through her own world music filter to striking effect. Wonderland made the BBC's list of 100 best CDs. She has collaborated with Bobby McFerrin, Yo Yo Ma and Sarah McLachlan, and performed at venues from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to L'Opera de Paris.
