About
Balthazar built their reputation the hard way, touring Germany, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands before most Belgian bands had even left the country. Formed in Kortrijk, the five piece blends indie pop and rock with vocal heavy arrangements, and their debut album Applause earned them a Music Industry Award for Best Album 2010. The follow up, Rats, won the same prize in 2012 and caught the attention of the French newspaper Libération, which called it the best album of that year. Their third album Thin Walls was produced by Ben Hillier, the man behind records by Blur and Depeche Mode, and spent four weeks at the top of Studio Brussel's Afrekening chart. Two songs from their catalog were used in the Belgian TV series The Break. Their 2021 album Sand drew praise for its hooks and vocal performances, with critics noting the band had fully realized what earlier records had promised.
