Ben Howard has a rare gift for making folk music feel genuinely weighty without tipping into self pity. His 2011 debut album Every Kingdom went triple platinum in the UK and landed him two Brit Awards in 2013, British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act, which put him firmly on the map. His second album I Forget Where We Were hit number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2014, and the 2018 follow up Noonday Dream earned strong critical notices on release. Howard is not a solo acoustic purist. He built a core band around collaborators including India Bourne on cello and keyboards, and he later co founded the group A Blaze of Feather with her and several others. His fifth studio album Is It? came out in June 2023, and his back catalogue has kept finding new audiences through TV placements, with tracks like 'Promise' and 'Oats in the Water' turning up in series such as The 100 and The Walking Dead.
