Ben Kweller built a reputation as a restlessly eclectic songwriter, someone equally comfortable with quirky pop, folk and punk within the same record. His 2002 debut solo LP Sha Sha put him on the map, driven by the single 'Wasted and Ready' which cracked the top 30 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Before going solo he fronted Radish, a Texas band that signed to Mercury Records as teenagers, toured with Faith No More and played the Reading Festival main stage, yet never quite broke through despite the hype. Kweller was ATO Records' first worldwide signing, which says something about the belief people had in him early on. He toured with Evan Dando, Jeff Tweedy and Juliana Hatfield, collaborated with Ben Folds and Ben Lee as The Bens, and wrote a song for Guster that ended up in Wedding Crashers. More recently he teamed up with Waxahatchee for 'Dollar Store', a 2025 release that shows he hasn't lost the instinct for a good hook.
