Ben Liebrand is the Dutch DJ and remixer who essentially taught a generation of superstar DJs how it was done. Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Ferry Corsten and DJ Jean have all named him as the main reason they got into music, largely thanks to his groundbreaking radio show "In the Mix", which launched on Dutch national radio in 1983 as the first ever non stop mixed show without DJ voiceovers. That show also gave birth to the Grandmix, an annual year end megamix of 100 plus tracks that took him a full month to put together each time. On the remix front, Liebrand has worked with a seriously wide range of artists, from Bill Withers and Phil Collins to Salt N Pepa, TLC, Sting and The Art Of Noise. His remix of Jeff Wayne's "The Eve of the War" hit number three on the UK Singles Chart in 1989, and his Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" rework reached number four in the UK after he played it live at the DMC Mixing Championship Finals and convinced roughly two and a half thousand DJs in the room to call Virgin Records the next morning.
