Benson Boone is the kind of artist who quits a top 24 spot on American Idol because he had bigger plans, and it turns out he was right. The Monroe, Washington native built a following on TikTok before Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds signed him to Night Street Records, releasing his first single "Ghost Town" in 2021. Boone plays drums, guitar, and piano, and even designed the artwork for that debut release himself. His pop and pop rock sound draws comparisons to Freddie Mercury, thanks to a wide vocal range and a theatrical stage presence he happily owns. The real breakthrough came with "Beautiful Things", which hit number one in the UK, Australia, Canada, and several other countries, and climbed to number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. It led into his debut album Fireworks and Rollerblades, which reached number six on the Billboard 200. He followed that up by opening for Taylor Swift at Wembley, covering "Bohemian Rhapsody" at Coachella with Brian May on guitar, and dropping his second album American Heart in 2025.
