About
Also known as: Blood Red Thorne
Founded in Kristiansand in 1998 by Daniel "Død" Olaisen, a guitarist who had done live duty with Satyricon, Blood Red Throne have carved out a reputation as one of the most straightforwardly brutal death metal acts Norway has produced. Their sound draws heavily from the Florida death metal tradition, and they are often cited alongside Cadaver as the closest thing the Norwegian scene has to a pure death metal band. Twelve studio albums deep, they have kept the formula tight and uncompromising across more than two decades. Olaisen is the only constant member, writing most of the music while vocalists handle the lyrics. The band has put serious road miles in, supporting Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Suffocation, and Cryptopsy on tour, and playing major festivals like Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, and Bloodstock. Their debut Monument of Death came with a limited edition "Suicide Kit" that included a printed razor blade and a poster, with the kit numbers written in the band members' own blood, which tells you plenty about the tone they set from day one.
