Few Belgian bands have gone as hard for as long as Aborted. Founded in Waregem in 1995 by vocalist Sven de Caluwé, the band built their reputation on what AllMusic neatly summed up as "unrestrained grindcore savagery and meticulously crafted death metal technicality". That balance between brutality and precision is what sets them apart in a crowded genre. De Caluwé is the sole original constant member, with the lineup now drawing from Belgium, Iceland, and the United States. Over nearly three decades, Aborted have put out twelve studio albums on labels including Century Media Records. Their 2014 release The Necrotic Manifesto charted in multiple countries including Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. Later records like TerrorVision, ManiaCult, and the 2024 release Vault of Horrors show a band that has kept pushing rather than coasting. Guest spots on albums from names like Julien Truchan of Benighted and Jason Netherton of Misery Index underline just how deep their roots run in the extreme metal world.
