About
Also known as: Beat of Angel, BoA Kwon, Kwon BoA, ボア, ボア (BoA), 寶兒, 권보아, 보아, 보아 (BoA), ＢｏＡ
BoA is the artist who cracked Japan before almost any K pop act could. Her debut Japanese album, Listen to My Heart, went straight to number one on the Oricon chart in 2002, the first record by a Korean artist to do so. Valenti followed in 2003 and became her biggest seller, with over 1.2 million copies, and Best of Soul in 2005 was the last million seller by a non Japanese artist for 16 years. She also joins Ayumi Hamasaki and Hikaru Utada as one of only three women with six straight number one studio albums on that chart. She has put out twenty studio albums in Korean, Japanese and English, and her self titled English record became the first by a K pop artist to land on the Billboard 200. Away from the studio, she has judged on K pop Star, hosted Produce 101, coached on The Voice of Korea and acted in the drama Listen to Love. It adds up to a nickname that stuck: the Queen of K pop.
