About
Boy & Bear are a Sydney five piece whose sound sits comfortably across indie folk, folk rock and indie pop, built on tight choral harmonies and Dave Hosking's guitar driven songwriting. Their debut album Moonfire landed at number two on the ARIA Charts in 2011 and swept five ARIA Awards that year, including Album of the Year and Best Group. They followed it with Harlequin Dream in 2013 and Limit of Love in 2015, both of which debuted at number one. That third album was recorded live and straight to tape at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studio with producer Ethan Johns, giving it a raw, unadorned feel that set it apart. The band kept building their catalogue with Suck on Light in 2019 and a self titled fifth album in 2023, the latter accompanied by the video for Strange World. Their name, fittingly quirky, traces back to a line in a Randy Newman song about a boy and a dancing bear finding acceptance everywhere.
