About
Caesar were an Amsterdam based indie rock trio who made a serious mark on the Dutch music scene across a decade of sharp, guitar driven records. Their 1998 album No Rest for the Alonely was the breakthrough, with the single Situations Complications picking up heavy airplay and becoming something of a festival staple. That record earned them a Zilveren Harp, a prestigious Dutch award for promising acts, and saw them playing Noorderslag, Pinkpop and Lowlands all in the same year. They later took the album to the UK under a slightly tidied up title and toured there with the backing of Melody Maker. For their third album Leaving Sparks they headed to Chicago to record with Steve Albini, a move that surprised fans when it turned out to be a quiet, keyboard heavy listen rather than the noise record people expected. They bounced back with a self titled fourth album in 2003 that returned to the loud, energetic feel of their debut Clean. A retrospective collection, Before My Band Explodes, followed in 2006, and the band called it quits in 2008.
