About
Capella Sancta Maria is an Amsterdam based choir that brings together four vocalists and five instrumentalists in a Spanish Dutch ensemble. Under the direction of Enrique López Cortón, the group specialises in music from the Spanish Renaissance, drawing on repertoire preserved in the well known Cancionero de Palacio manuscript. Their programmes feature ensaladas, a genre that blends everyday scenes with references to historical events, often in four languages at once and with a distinct sense of humour. Villancicos, danzas and cantigas round out the picture, together painting a vivid portrait of a period when Spanish cultural life was at a remarkable peak.
