Caroline Rose has spent the better part of a decade gleefully defying expectations. Starting out in American folk and country sounds, she made a sharp pivot with Loner in 2018, swapping acoustic textures for synth heavy pop rock laced with sarcasm and dark humor. NPR ranked her song "Jeannie Becomes a Mom" among the best singles of that year, and she followed it up with Superstar, a full blown cinematic concept album about chasing fame to the wrong Hollywood. The Art of Forgetting, released in 2023, pulled in orchestral strings and earned a Grammy nomination for its packaging, while the New York Times singled out "Love / Lover / Friend" as one of the best songs of 2023. Her most recent album, year of the slug, arrived in early 2025, continuing a run of restless reinvention that makes her genuinely hard to pin down.
