Charlotte Spruit is a violinist who has quickly made a name for herself on the international competition circuit, winning major prizes in Leipzig and London. After releasing her debut album Le Mercure Galant, Gramophone magazine named her a One to Watch, which says something about the impression she made straight out of the gate. Her calendar fills up with high profile debut engagements, and her playing is often described for its poetic sensibility rather than just technical flash. On stage she pairs well with pianist and conductor Angus Webster. Their shared repertoire leans into the Romantic tradition, including works by Brahms and Schumann, music the two composers wrote with almost reckless creative energy. Spruit brings a sense of conviction and flair to that material, letting the drama in the scores speak without overstating it.
