Hadewych van Gent does something most classical musicians wouldn't dare: she plays cello and sings at the same time, and does both with genuine conviction. The jury of Dutch Classical Talent called risk taking her second nature, praising the fullness of both her voice and her cello tone as well as her boldness in timing. Her music is rooted in classical tradition but woven through with folk influences drawn from many different countries, giving it an intimate quality that sits somewhere between concert hall and fireside. She has collaborated with the Kanneh Mason family and performed with Coldplay, and The Times once described one of her shows as an intoxicating spell.
