About
Chorwerk Ruhr is a choral ensemble with a broad repertoire that stretches from medieval sacred music all the way through to contemporary composition. Under the direction of Florian Helgath, the group brings together voices across centuries, placing works by composers like Hildegard von Bingen alongside pieces by Fanny Hensel, Florence B. Price and Caroline Shaw. Their programme SHE is built around exactly this kind of dialogue, with Shaw's Partita for 8 Voices at its centre. That piece constructs layered sound from breath and language, beginning as scattered elements and gradually cohering into something that keeps shifting in colour and texture. The ensemble sings with both precision and a willingness to take risks, drawing out threads of longing, loss and resilience that run across repertoire separated by hundreds of years.
