About
Church of Cash is a Johnny Cash tribute band from Minnesota, fronted by Jay Ernest, whose deep baritone does most of the heavy lifting. The group formed in 2009 and has played thousands of shows across the United States, Belgium and the Netherlands. They've also taken a theatre production called Folsom Prison Experience on the road. The set mixes the big Cash songs with lesser known corners of his catalogue, think "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" and "One Piece at a Time", played with respect for the originals but with their own energy. Flowers for June, made with a group of Minnesota musicians, is among their albums, and they also write songs of their own that sit comfortably in Cash's world of guilt and redemption. The Midwest Country Music Organization named them Best Tribute Act in 2019 and again in 2021, and the band went into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2021.
