About
City of the Sun built their sound on the streets of New York, busking their way to a reputation that eventually landed them a spot at the 2013 TED conference. The New York duo blends acoustic post rock with gypsy jazz, flamenco, and indie rock into something that feels genuinely hard to pin down, driven almost entirely by guitar and drums. Signed to Chesky Records in 2015, they put out their debut full length to the sun and all the cities in between in 2016, which cracked the Billboard jazz charts at number 12. A self titled second album followed in 2020, and they have kept releasing music steadily since, with EPs like Segunda Alma in 2022 showing the project is very much ongoing. Their catalog is the kind of thing that rewards repeated listens, intricate without being showy.
