About
Hermanos Gutiérrez make instrumental guitar music that, as Rolling Stone put it, 'sings without needing a singer'. The Zürich based duo, brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez, blend Latin and Western sounds into something that shuffles between sun bleached and cinematic. Their early albums drew from Latin traditions, but a trip to Mexico and the American Southwest pushed them toward wider territory, and their fourth album Hijos del Sol landed with an eight minute title track video to match. The real turning point came when Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys brought them into his Nashville studio for El Bueno y el Malo, a record soaked in Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western spirit. It earned serious critical love, landed them an NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and got Auerbach a Grammy nomination partly on its strength. Auerbach stuck around to produce the follow up, Sonido Cósmico, released in 2024. The brothers also teamed up with Natalia Lafourcade on her 2025 album Cancionera, which won the Latin Grammy for best singer/songwriter album.
