About
Also known as: Ella Moore
Cleo Reed pulls apart the traditions of Black American music history and builds something entirely their own from the pieces. Country, folk, blues and soul collide with distorted electronics, experimental composition and rap, and Reed performs solo, incorporating self built instruments, textiles and installations as part of the live experience. The album CUNTRY centres on the anger that surfaces when labour takes over the body. Its first half reaches back to American work songs and the southern roots of Reed's family, while the second half shifts into harder, more electronic and rap driven territory shaped by growing up in New York. Both Pitchfork and NPR Music named it among the best albums of 2025. The result is something that honours Black music history while flatly refusing to be contained by it.
