About
Cloakroom coined the term 'stoner emo' for their own sound, and that about sums up the creative ambition behind this Chesterton, Indiana band. Formed in 2012, they built their early reputation on Run for Cover Records with a heavy, shoegaze tinged take on emo revival, most notably on their debut album Further Out, produced by Matt Talbott of Hum. The record caught the ear of Jesse Lacey from Brand New, who personally invited them to open shows after listening to it at home. From there, Cloakroom kept pushing the sound outward. Signing to Relapse Records for Time Well and Dissolution Wave, they leaned further into metal and slowcore territory. Dissolution Wave came wrapped in a concept about a theoretical physics event that erases all of humanity's art, and featured Talbott as a guest. Their fourth album Last Leg of the Human Table arrived in early 2025 via Closed Casket Activities, showing no sign of standing still.
