About
The Colin Currie Group was founded in 2006 specifically to perform Steve Reich's music at the BBC Proms, marking the composer's seventieth birthday. That focused origin has shaped everything since: the ensemble is now regarded as one of the leading interpreters of Reich's work, and their performances have repeatedly been described as revelatory even by Reich himself. Their connection to Reich goes beyond concert hall routine. In 2021 they gave the world premiere of his piece Traveler's Prayer, a commission made partly in collaboration with the ZaterdagMatinee. Their programmes dig into the logic at the heart of Reich's compositional approach, music built on gradual process, where small shifts accumulate into something much larger.
