About
Isaiah Collier is a Chicago saxophonist who also works as a composer, curator, activist and educator, and he plays several instruments beyond the sax. Collier plays Coltrane is his way of digging into John Coltrane's musical and spiritual legacy, with tradition and a forward looking streak running side by side. He has worked with Angel Bat Dawid's Brotherhood, Chance The Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III and Junius Paul. With his band The Chosen Few he made the album Cosmic Transitions, which picked up a five star review in DownBeat and landed on several year end lists. The record was cut in Rudy Van Gelder's studio on Coltrane's birthday, partly on the same analog gear used for A Love Supreme. DownBeat has called him "The Next Sax Giant".
