About
Few Australian acts have made an entrance quite like Daddy Cool. Their debut single 'Eagle Rock', released in 1971, sat at number one on the Australian charts for ten weeks, and their debut album Daddy Who? Daddy Cool became the first Australian record to sell over 100,000 copies. That is a serious legacy for a band that barely lasted two years in their original run. Built around the songwriting of Ross Wilson, the band leaned hard into a 1950s doo wop sound, mixing covers from their own record collections with Wilson originals. Live, they were loose, danceable and genuinely fun. Their second album Sex, Dope, Rock'n'Roll: Teenage Heaven hit the top ten too before the band broke up in 1972. After a brief reunion in the mid 1970s, the original four members got back together in 2005, and in 2006 they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
