About
Also known as: ДахаБраха
DakhaBrakha are a Ukrainian folk quartet from Kyiv who fuse the musical traditions of multiple ethnic groups into something that sounds like nothing else. Their name comes from the Ukrainian verbs meaning 'give' and 'take', and they grew out of the avant garde theatre Dakh, where they started as a live theatre music crew. Rolling Stone called them the 'Best Breakout' at Bonnaroo 2014, and since then they have played everywhere from Glastonbury to the Newport Folk Festival to NPR's Tiny Desk. Four voices sit at the centre of what they do, supported by an eclectic mix of instruments including cello, didgeridoo, djembe, tabla and accordion. Their 2024 work on the documentary Porcelain War, an antiwar film about Ukraine, saw the filmmakers use their entire discography, including unreleased recordings. Their most recent studio album is Ptakh, released in 2025.
