Damian Wilson has one of those careers that refuses to stay in one lane. The English singer has fronted progressive metal heavyweights Threshold and Headspace, lent his voice to Arjen Lucassen's sprawling Ayreon universe across multiple albums, and toured alongside Rick Wakeman as part of his English Rock Ensemble. There is also the small matter of spending two years playing Jean Valjean in Sir Cameron Mackintosh's touring production of Les Misérables, a gig he landed after literally tripping over an actor's dog while running along the Thames. As a solo artist Wilson has put out five albums and a substantial retrospective, and his acoustic work deserves its own mention. He sang alongside Anneke van Giersbergen on the Maiden uniteD project, reworking Iron Maiden tracks in stripped back acoustic arrangements, and eventually recorded three albums with them. His collaboration with Adam Wakeman in Headspace produced the well regarded concept album I Am Anonymous in 2012, and Wilson has kept up a steady run of solo and acoustic shows across Europe in recent years.
